How many .com.au domain names can I
register?
There is no restriction on the
number of domain names that may be licensed by a registrant. You
would qualify if the domain name corresponds to:
Name of a service which you provide
Exact match for business name or trademark
Abbreviation of business name or trademark
Acronym of business name or trademark
Name refers to a product you build or manufacture
Refers to a program you administer
Name of an event that you sponsor
Name of an activity you teach or train
Refers to a venue which you operate
Name of the profession practiced by you or your employees
If someone offers to buy my
domain, can I sell it?
No, Australian domain names are
not transferable.
I have a free website at
geocities.com, can I redirect my domain to this address at
geocities?
Yes, we can redirect your domain
to any URL you like. We charge a nominal annual fee for this, click
here.
If I register a domain with
you, can I use the email address me@myname.com.au?
Not unless you are hosting or
redirecting with us, or some other ISP.
After I registered my domain,
I found out that it is actually someone else's trade mark, what
happens then.
As a registry, we register any
name you like provided its available. The onus is on you to make
sure you are not infringing on someone else's trade mark. You
should seek legal counsel on this. It could depend on what your
intentions are, and how you are going to put the domain name in
use. Trade Marks are generally granted in a certain category of
products or service. In cases of dispute the originator of the
dispute sends notice of the dispute in writing to the
administrator. The originator, the administrator and any third
parties must attempt to settle the dispute by negotiations and
conciliation. If the above attempts fail to settle the dispute,
the parties agree to refer the dispute to a commercial disputes
centre. All parties must agree to be bound by the ruling of the
arbiter. The costs of the dispute are borne by the originator.
I thought of this really cool
name, and I registered mycoolname.com.au. What protection do I have
against others registering the .net or .org variety?
You have no protection. If the
other varieties are available at the time of registration,
you could register those as well (having obtained Trading names
first). You could also consider
applying for a trade mark for "mycoolname". Again seek
legal counsel advice.
Why are Australian domain
names more expensive than the International .com?
Price is always a function of
supply and demand.
